About Us

KF Iraq (formerly The Kubba Foundation) was initially conceived in December 2002 during the tense run-up to the invasion of Iraq and the subsequent collapse of Saddam Hussain’s regime.  In 2003, the organisation was established in London, Dubai and Baghdad with generous financial contributions from Farouk Jamil Kubba, Munther Mehdi Kubba, Wayil Fahkri Kubba, Laith Wayil Kubba, Dr Muthena Kubba, Hayder Saleh Kubba and Salah Abdulhamid Kubba.  The foundation’s official launch was held at the Green Art Gallery in Dubai in June 2003.

KF Iraq was created to fund and manage projects that promote the social development of the Iraqi people and the rebuilding of civil society in Iraq.  The Iraqi people have suffered enormous physical and emotional trauma through years of Saddam Hussain’s dictatorship, international sanctions, three exhausting wars and on-going instability and violence.  This turmoil has seriously impacted on the Iraqi family unit, the cornerstone of traditional and civil society in Iraq.  The nation’s basic health and education infrastructure has been decimated.  A country which once boasted the highest percentage of graduates in the Arab world now faces  number of PhD holders in the world now faces a secondary school enrolment of less than 50%.  Hospitals are struggling to offer patients even the most basic medical care and the prospects of this changing in the near future are bleak.  The ripple effects of the health and education crisis in Iraq will be felt for decades to come and it is crucial that immediate steps are taken to curb the consequences.

With international organisations being severely limited by Iraq’s security situation there is an urgent need for Iraqi charities and organisations, no matter how large or small, to rise to the forefront of charity aid for the Iraqi people.  Iraqis need to help Iraqis NOW – this is our mission.”
